This semester’s animation (working version)

I have been working on this animation all semester. Really hard, too! I’m sure there are bags under my eyes.. I just can’t see them because I’m blind from staring at the computer screen for so long.

“The Anti-Story Machine”
The idea came about when I was trying to think of a narrative to animate. As usual, my brain didn’t want to work with that, so I decided to embrace the anti-narrative that always seems to accompany my work.

This isn’t the final version. I filmed this in super 8 (what else?) and have sent it off to be processed - I will post that version when it gets back. Soon, I hope!

  • A great animation with a surreal, dreamlike feel. (I suppose you could say that a dream is an anti-story, now that I think about it.)

I really like - in no particular order - the pans and the zooms, the moons-as-balloons, the tempo and the slightly grainy textures.

  • Hey Emily, Kelley here, Earl in ballroom. Loved your films. Want to see them on bigger screen. I watched in library and didn’t have earbuds w/ me. Do they have soundtracks? Do you have computer music programs available in kinetic imaging?
Your films make me want to take some classes in your program. What courses are available to non majors. I’m actually a music major. Let me know when your get more pieces/works or if you have a showing! later…

  • Thanks again Bob! Hey - have you considered beat poetry? Just saying…
